Black Onion
Black Onion is an experiment in making an object easier to understand by letting you take it apart. It turns an arcade cabinet into an interactive 3D assembly: something you can orbit, inspect, isolate, and pull apart without needing a workshop or a manual in front of you.
How It Works
The viewer opens on a complete arcade cabinet and supports orbit, pan, and zoom controls. A parts panel lets you select and focus individual components, including the cabinet body, canopy, monitor, control deck, coin door, trim, joystick, and buttons. Each part can also be hidden independently, so the assembly can be read one layer at a time.
What Makes It Different
Rather than treating the model as a static render, Black Onion makes the structure itself the interface. An exploded-view slider and animation reveal how the cabinet comes together; wireframe mode exposes its geometric construction; and auto-rotate gives a quick, hands-free overview. The current browser-ready assembly is purpose-built from simple 3D primitives, while the original SolidWorks source files remain available for a future conversion to a faithful GLB model.
