WordSprout

WordSprout is a vocabulary-learning prototype built around a simple idea: learning a word should feel like growing something, not completing a worksheet. It explores how AI can make language practice more responsive and playful, while giving progress a visible, lasting place to live.

How It Works

Learners can look up a word, phrase, or idiom and receive a definition, pronunciation, part of speech, example sentence, and spoken playback. When the word itself is unknown, reverse lookup starts from a description and suggests likely matches. From there, WordSprout can build a tailored learning path from a learner's proficiency, pace, interests, and existing vocabulary. A camera capture mode can also turn a photographed vocabulary list into a playable word pool.

What Makes It Different

The prototype connects study to a small living system. Learned words, challenge streaks, and rewards feed a personal garden where users plant seeds, manage weather, collect resources, and unlock items. Timed word challenges support adjustable difficulty, dictation, hints, and retrying missed words, while lookup history and progress persist across sessions. It is designed to make vocabulary practice feel cumulative: each interaction leaves the learner with both knowledge and a visible sign of momentum.
